Big Bucket Software you like to use
New Chapter

A week ago, I left Nautronix. Up and left. After 3 (or so) years, I decided to pack up my things and head elsewhere. Not just any elsewhere, though, I decided on an elsewhere that was closer to home, was going to pay me more money and was doing something new and exciting. That something is C#.

It was a hard one; deciding to leave a company that I’d grown rather fond of. It was my first job out of University and although I’m sure moving on is always a difficult prospect, I’m confident that the first time is the hardest.

Mostly, I’m going to miss the people. There was a lull a little while back where cultural factions started to form, but that totally evaporated when people started cross pollinating teams and by the time I had left it really seemed to be one big happy family again. One aspect that made that work, to my mind, was the big kitchen. There was enough room in that kitchen for maybe eight people to sit around a big rickety table and chat about whatever. Sometimes it was work related, but often it was just geek related. You know, Mythbusters, Family Guy, WoW, whatever. Other times, we would ask ourselves the big questions. And I mean the really big questions. Stuff like, is Ruby better than Perl? (yes) or do Exceptions have any place in a language like C++? (still don’t know). Yeah. Deep stuff.

Good times, good times. I’m sure I’ll be working with some of you guys again in the future, in Perth that’s practically inevitable, until then, I’ll try my darndest to stay in touch.

  • You have missed out as they have just introduced beer and skittles for lunch! no not really… :-(

  • Sort of understand how you feel now, coz I’m in the same situation as yours (apart from the number of years)
All I can say is, this infamous 106 building, especially L-3 kitchen is somehow quiet and dull ….. and i really meant it.
Well, it’s a path to be taken one day, sooner or later (“,)

  • Yeah, without you distracting us we all have to work :(

    not happy!

  • Of course, when Andyman says it is boring, its because Im working MUCS so much I barely have time to eat.

    Grarg.

I agree, the Big Kitchen should be some sort of project management pattern. I wonder if it scales? Do cafeterias have quite the same affect, or would the size of the room change the result?

    Something to ponder.
